A 60-year-old woman who was found dead in her Brooklyn apartment on Thursday morning was being investigated as a homicide, according to police. Katherine Korn, who was found dead by her landlord, was allegedly shot several times, according to NBC New York. It was initially reported that two men had been seen leaving the scene.
A statement from the NYPD on Friday said the woman’s death was being treated as a homicide but said they are not ruling out robbery. It added that the tenants “appear to have been the only people in the apartment at the time.” A police source told NBC that the woman’s landlord had already opened his door when he heard an explosion. He had immediately gone into his apartment and found the victim, who was unconscious and unresponsive.
Another police source told NBC that the landlord had been notified of the disturbance only an hour before the woman was found dead and that there was no sign of forced entry into the residence.
According to NBC, the woman lived alone and previously lived in the building with her mother and brother but said they had all since moved out.
